What is IACUC?

IACUC stands for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, which is tasked with overseeing research that involves animal subjects.

Who is a part of IACUC?

The composition of IACUC is defined by recommendations from the Public Health Service Policy. Accordingly, the University of Richmond must have at least 5 members, and should include:

  • An attending veterinarian
  • A practicing scientist
  • One member who represent the community interests in proper care and use of animals (not affiliated with UR).
  • One member whose primary concerns are in nonscientific areas.
What animals are regulated?
