  • What is IACUC?

    IACUC stands for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, which is tasked with overseeing research that involves animal subjects.

  • Who is a part of IACUC?

    The composition of IACUC is defined by recommendations from the Public Health Service Policy. Accordingly, the University of Richmond must have at least 5 members, and should include:

    • An attending veterinarian
    • A practicing scientist
    • One member who represent the community interests in proper care and use of animals (not affiliated with UR).
    • One member whose primary concerns are in nonscientific areas.
  • What animals are regulated?

    Vertebrate subjects are typically regulated by IACUC. Field studies that involve vertebrate subjects will also require IACUC approval.
